Who'll Be the ASPCA's 2013 Calendar Cover Model? Cast Your Vote!

Thursday, August 23, 2012 - 11:30am

We're putting our 2013 calendar together right now, and staffers and volunteers representing all 12 months of the year have been photographed with their furry friends. There's only one big decision left to make, and we’re leaving the answer up to you: Who should grace the calendar’s cover?

We've narrowed down the field to four contenders. Check out the photos that are in the running, read a little about their sweet four-legged subjects, and then cast your vote for our 2013 Cover Dog or Cat. The pet whose photo gets the most votes will have his or her face in homes all over America!

Buddy

Zoom

Abandoned in Brooklyn, Buddy was rescued by an ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agent. Soon this irresistible Terrier found his forever home with another member of our Anti-Cruelty team.

Maow & Bruce

Zoom

Cuddly siblings and BFFs Maow and Bruce were adopted from a tiny shelter in Rego Park, Queens. Maow is a dainty lady, while Bruce is an expert boxer.

Pooch & Schnogg

Zoom

Pooch survived a gunshot wound as a puppy and was adopted by a loving family that included big brother Schnogg. Now Pooch, the baby of the house, rules the roost.

Rocky

Zoom

Named for his favorite playing position (sitting on his back legs and using his front paws), Rocky is a fun-loving feline who keeps a close eye on his younger sister Lucy.

Buddy's happy face represents the attitude of lucky dogs rescued by the ASPCA>

I AM A CANDIDATE TO BE APPOINTED TO THE COUNTY ANIMAL COMISSION OF SOLANO COUNTY CALIF. LET'S WORK TOGETHER. TEL. NO.925-323-1060 PLEASE CONTACT ME, I AM A GOOD ORGANIZER.

I love you all they are so cute! I dont want to vote for 1 can i vote for all the caledars! =)

I think there should be a picture of a cat AND dog together. In my opinion; that would be the perfect cover.

I love you all...I love ALL of the animals!!! You can mispell you can be silly you guys are the best!! Hey, how about horses?? :)

I love all the pictures but I have to Pooch because of the story!! I would also love to see a picture of a dog and cat together and if you can add a horse, goat, duck etc with them that would be GREAT!!

Rocky looks so much like my Williecat who has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

I Love all the pictures, how can I choose one from another? They are ALL beautiful! Please have a picture that includes ALL creatures Great and Small.. Keep up the much needed work, and lets ALL END CRUELITY....... Thanks.

Seriously?!?! I'm an executive secretary, and as such, it's my JOB to catch misspelled words and to correct poor grammar. But the operative word is JOB, as in the office, as in work, as in the place that pays me to be nitpicky. Outside of the office, who cares! BTW, did you ever have your IPhone decide to change the spelling or the word you had intended to be part of your message? Things happen. The secret to life is to not take yourself so seriously, so lighten up and get a life.

I agree with everyone that states spelling is not an issue. As long as the point gets across to what the REAL issue is, which is too help animals. I support ASPCA 100%+ and their never ending help and commitment to help animals everywhere.

This is a very good idea.

I love the ASPCA Calendars, and I am sad to say that as a Guardian for The ASPCA I have not been receiving my Yearly Calendars. This is a little upsetting as I do look forward to them.

i love animals sooo much and i am proud to be a member of the ASPCA society. We just had to put down my 16 year old border collie yesterday. It was so hard and it will be hard to get used to not having her anymore. She was in soo much pain. She had limphoma and her back legs were the size of tennis balls. I love dogs and next time i get a dog im not getting one from the pet store, i will definitly get one from the pound. thx!

To spell or not to spell correctly Humm, must be a teach er

I think Buddy is a true HERO to make it through abandond and the streets that makes him a HERO !! Thanks for saving Buddy !!

It was a tough choice to pick as they were all good candidates..LOL. Thank you ASPCA, keep up the good work. I give monthly because I believe whole heartedly in what you do!

Just adding my own 2 cents but (& in case it hasn't been mentioned yet), what's wrong w/ having some pet birds on a cover in the future. There are just as many birds out there going thru some form of abuse & need to be recognized as well.

It was a tough choice....chose the 2 orange kitties cause I know it's hard to get cats to pose for pictures!

They are all beautiful How about the other 3 entrees on inside/back & front covers?????????? The more the meowier!!!!!

All of the animals on the cover are great! It was very hard to choose!

The picture of Maow and Bruce is a lovely photo...One of my best and certainly most intelligent pet was a pot belly pig..Geronimo...where's the pig picture?

I agree that it would be nice to see a picture of cats and dogs together. Thanks

I love all animals but am partial to dogs...HOWEVER...Rocky is a beautiful cat! Yes, even us dog owners can be objective!!

I chose the "Rocky" picture because less cats are adopted than dogs, and it's a beautiful picture. You guys do a fantastic job and i contribute every chance i get. It seems some people would rather argue than pick a picture, sad. I'm proud to be a member, and you make it so.

I checked "yes" ON EMAILS, but I already recieve emails from you. Please no double messages.

I think that the photo should be selected not by appearance alone but also taking into consideration of the story behind the cat(s) and dog(s). A cover story is equally important as its photo.

They're all so adorable.

I'm really a cat lover(I like dogs too) but Buddy's picture just seemed to stand out.

How about a collage of all animals on the cover? Dogs, cats, lambs, bison, giraffs, ferrets, etc.; you get the idea. It could be the picture of the December month too. You know, like all living creatures, together in peace and harmony.

I agree with all those who would like to see a "multi-animal" cover, that is, a collage. I also agree with those who want to have horses "in the running". My husband and I own two very special rescue horses. It is amazing to watch as they forgive the wrongs of the past and "come alive", learning to trust and love. In the past, we have also adopted rescue dogs. We are so blessed to have these beautiful souls in our lives! As an aside - a few years back, while driving in Wyoming, I spotted a Draft horse near the dusty road we were on. He was all alone, yet there were other horses on a nearby knoll, eating, drinking, and having a source of shade. I put up a fuss, so my husband turned the car around to appease me. What a pitiful sight! Seeing this horse at a closer distance, I saw that he was covered with lice, much too thin, and his hooves, which were beginning to curl up. It appeared that he was in pain as he took a few tender steps in my direction. "Big Ben" as I dubbed him, granted me the honor of touching him and I in turn was able to give him at least a short moment of love and compassion. Maybe he was thinking, "I do have worth! Some one truly does care!!" I knew in my heart that this wonderful horse would not harm me, so against warnings from my other half, I approached this magnificent, though neglected, equine. "Ben" was so tender and gentle! Though he was certainly not physically appealing, it was his heart that revealed the beautiful big horse standing before me! I cannot exactly explainwhat happened on that lonely Wyoming road, but there was something special about this big, old Draft horse. Oh - such tenderness in his in his eyes, heart and soul! Sadly, once we returned home, I was directed to the sheriff, who I was told, would be the one I should report this incident to. During our conversation, he told me that because of the size of the state and the large distances between one place and another, that it would not be feasible to establish any kind of rescue program. I told the sheriff where this incident was and he indicated he knew where or who I was talking about, he brushed it off, with seemingly no intention to do anything. This makes me sick! Thank you for hearing me out.

sorry got so annoyed by spelling test i forgot to vote. PUT ALL FOUR PICS ON THE COVER! it certainly will be timely with the new microsoft logo=].

in memory of our beloved Ciorapik, who looked so much like Bruce and Maow

My cat George Carlin Darlin' looks almost exactly like Rocky. I am told he is "a Super Alpha Cat ". I too, would like to see a dog/cat combo on the cover. Big dogs being taken over by very small kittens are the BEST !!!!!

I would prefer dogs only

It's a tough choice picking the cover- they are all so great. I have to admit though...the buddy system of Pooch & Schnogg won me over!

this was very hard because I love both cats and dogs. would of been nice to see some choices of both cats/dogs together, or kittens and puppies

I want to see all the animals. All of them deserve a special place!!!! Remember people they are forever friends.

At this time I don't think our friends care about the spelling. As long as the point gets across! And, yes spelling and grammar are important. However, why the fuss? IT'S ONLY A FRIENDY COMMENT!

For the future, how about a calendar featuring both cat & dog? True animal lovers have no favorites!

If you want to get support you need to use Buddy. He just promotes the whole picture of ASPCA. We want to prevent cruelty to any animal but this guy tells it all. Look forward to my new Buddy on the cover.

How about all 4 of them! They're all so cute! Beautiful pics!

My question is for those who are so focused on a word not spelled correctly..."REALLY?". Let me get this straight, some of your readers are more impressed with the spelling on your site than the reason for the site??? Boy, what a small minded world this has become. It is about animals and nothing else, maybe they should spend alittle more time helping those who cannot spek for themselves.

I proof read my post too late there it was "spek", I stand corrected..it should be speak. Another typo.

It is so difficult to choose! I love them all!!!

All I wanted to do was see the selected pics to choose from then, place my vote. What I see is all the written petty nonsense about spelling etc. garbage. Stick to the issue---place your vote & that's it. That's what was requested, NOT the petty nonsense about spelling, these people arguing about spelling, grammar etc., here! I love all four of the selected Calendar photos to pick from and vote for (it's tough to just choose one).

I think Pooch & Schnogg are just adorable. You can see by the look in Pooch's eyes that he definately runs the house. Looks like big brother Schnogg will always be there for him as well. I hope you win guys!! I am not fond of cats so I'm glad that we had a separate choice. I do like horses and would not have minded if there was a picture of a horse(s) in the choices above. p.s.(If u do not like my grammar, spelling or punctuation u can kiss my ........)

Thanks to all ASPCA volunteers and members for the caring concern of all our animal friends. There could never be enough done to help our furry and non-furry animal friends. They need all of us and we need them to share the caring loving support we can give them.

I would also have liked to see both Cats and Dogs together for the cover of the calendar
