We don’t know about you, but just one mention of the quickly approaching deadline to file our taxes is enough to make us groan. However, we do have some good news—you can actually help animals while filing your taxes this year!

To participate, sign up for our We-Care.com extension here. This secure browser extension for Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox makes it possible for the ASPCA to automatically receive a donation from your purchases—at no cost to you (averaging 3%)*. It takes less than a minute to set up and, once you do, this reminder will let you know when you’ve visited a participating merchant’s website. Since H&R Block and Turbo Tax are just two of the 2,500+ merchants, tax season is just the start of many more ways that you can help animals with this download.

We appreciate all the merchants that are part of We-Care.com and make this enormous online shopping opportunity possible for the ASPCA. This partnership has made a real difference for countless animals.

Let me start off by saying as a pet owner my pets are family, not property. I had a Black Lab German Shepherd puppy, Zues. I have been bringing him to this vet from the moment I got him. They stated he had an abnormal bump on his head from his plates not growing together properly. The bump over time proceeded to get larger. I brought him in for a nose bleed on 2/18/13 stating that there was something very wrong with my puppy. We specifically asked about the bump, again. The nose bleed went on for over 24 hours. The Vet that saw him was a floating Vet. She attempted to help the blood clot so the bleeding would stop. She wrote it off as it would stop bleeding and to keep him quiet, nothing more about the bump on his head. She wrote in the report that the plates in his head had finished growing together. 2/27/13: He was brought back to the Vet for more shots. I was informed that he was in great health. The bump again, had gotten slightly larger. The bump, again was written off as fine. 3/09/13 The bump on his head grew 10x larger and he was not acting like himself. Within 12 hours I found him dead in his cage. I brought him back to the Vet yesterday morning so they could determine what had happened to my 'healthy' pup. They told me he had large blunt trauma to his right side and that is how he died. Saying he could have been hit by a car or something large. Where I live it is a 50 mph zone a car would have killed him on the spot. Since I watch him when he went out that is completely out of the question. In their Report it also said he had a large blood clot extending into the cranium. When we asked, we were told that the bump on his head had nothing to do with his death. If nothing had happened to cause trauma to his side, how did he receive such extensive damage? I will never get my dog back, see him or be able to play with him again due to the fact that our concerns of the bump on his head were not looked into until it was too late. The fact is that nothing is making any sense. He has had many health issues that were not looked into as they should have been. My Argument is genuine, you go to school for many years to get your vet license, you pratice and practice. Why wouldn't you do everything you can when it was clearly observed that the bump was ABNORMAL. Also, how it is possible that there was a blood clot in his brain and it was not in any way related to the cause of his death. I firmly believe based on the symptoms and reported damage to his body that there was some kind of underlying health problem. Why was it overlooked? Why was he deemed healthy when he died at 5 months old? Yes, its true that it may not have been avoidable, and maybe it could have been. It is still their job to treat an animal to the best of their ability. Had he been a human child, tests would have been run on the bump on his head. My main point is that there were many signs indicating that there was something more wrong with my puppy. The signs and our concerns were ignored, resulting in the death of my 5 month old puppy. Sincerely, His Father.

Always, always, always get a second or even third opinion if your pet is ill or injured and what the veterinarian is claiming just doesn't "sit right". Yes, it may cost some more, but it will save you heartbreak in the end. Not all veterinarians out there are ethical and some are downright incompetent. They have all the power since they are the "professionals" and we want to trust them because we want so much for our pets to be well. Be skeptical, do your research, even ask the vets on www.justanswer.com; I did and it helped me figure out that my vet was misleading me as to the true nature of my pet's condition.

I am so sorry for the loss of your baby. This is an incredibly sad story. I would sue this animal hospital. I am not one to sue someone everytime I turn around, but this is gross negligence on their part. It's no different from an MD missing this in a human. This hospital took on the responsibility of Zeus' life and keeping him as healthy as they could when they took him on as a patient. To ignore such a blatant symptom is deplorable and astounding. True, it's possible nothing could be done, but at least you would have had the comfort of knowing they tried everything they could. I sincerely hope you spread the word in your area so other animals don't suffer at the hands of these incompetent people. I would also check their backgrounds to see if they actually graduated from the vet schools they claim to have gone to. My heart goes out to you.

I really wish I had seen this or knew about it sooner! This is the first time I actually owe on my taxes. Oh the joy of being a successful business owner! http//www.shannonspetsitting.net But since I'm so on top of things & organized I already had my taxes done! :-( It defiantly would have made it less painful knowing I was helping the animals at the same time! I made sure to share this with my FB & Twitter friends & followers though! Next year be sure to post a reminder sooner! ;-)
