Sisters Get One Million Facebook Likes to Adopt a New Puppy

Thanks to the power of social media, a puppy will soon have a new forever home!

After their previous dog died of cancer, a pair of sisters took to Facebook on Tuesday in an effort to get their father to adopt another. The pair posted a photo of themselves holding a sign that read, “Hi World. We want a puppy! Our dad said we could get one if we get one million likes! He doesn’t think we can do it! So ‘LIKE’ this!”

Luckily for the two girls and their new puppy, the photo quickly hit the goal, amassing 1.2 million likes in just seven hours. In a post on their Facebook page, Twogirlsandapuppy, the girls’ father promises he’ll be true to his word to give a lucky dog a new home.

Congratulations, girls!

This is so great!!!!!! Very happy for those lovely girls and which ever pup gets to go with them.GOd bless everyone

Way to go girls I am so proud of you and so happy that you got all the likes you needed to get your new puppy. Enjoy the new puppy and don't forget to thank your dad for sticking to his word.

Hi, I appreciate your post and the spirit in which it was made. But everyone should keep their word and no one should feel obligated to thank them for it. So sorry, but your wording sort of disturbed me. I think we sometimes forget that in this fast pace of life, no one should make promises they don't intend to keep.

while i agree that you should never make promises or threats you don't intend to keep (for those parents who shout "we're leaving if you don't straighten up" and then continue to plea with their kids when the behavior doesn't change) I also believe that showing appreciation for good behavior (whether the behavior is expected or nor) can be encouraging for that person as well as someone not prone to the good behavior. My husband takes out the trash and even though it's become his job, I still thank him for it. Nothing should be taken for granted. Not even things we should be doing anyway. Someone was being nice. They were encouraging manners in children. Let them be.

Expressing gratitude I'd never wrong or inappropriate.

Sorry for typo. Should have read: Expressing gratitude is never wrong or inappropriate.

But... We do not live in this kind of world where everyone keeps their promises. Therefore, thank your daddy for being an exception and sticking to his word and just try to do the same in your life! Wishing you loads of happy times with your puppy!! Treat it well!

There is no s in anyway...

As the children said they wanted a puppy and are going to get one from the local dogs home ,so why are all these other people on here that obviously don't want their own dogs trying to get the children to have theirs , ie , 2fully grown bulldogs , not exactly the sort of dog I would recommend for children , let the children go and pick their own dog , and for all those people trying to get rid of theirs , simple don't get one in the first place , A DOG IS FOR LIFE, not just something you send to a new home when you've had enough of it !!!!!

Bulldogs aren't bad dogs my biological father has 2 of them and they are gentle and kind. Unlike most people on the Bulldogs are bad dogs bandwagon you have you actually try to see how most of the bulldogs are.

Yay! I hope you will post pictures of the sisters with their newly adopted puppy! Way to go Dad.

I thought it would be nice idea to post a pic of the kids and the puppy We would love to see that Congratulations!

Congrats girls!! I'm sure yall will make your new puppy very happy . Because that puppy needed you too!! HUGS!!

Thats Awesome Congratulations to you and your new puppy!!

Congratulations!!! Despite the negative feedback that went with positive support on Facebook, I think that ASPCA and this family deserve a social thank you for bringing social awareness! This story elicited responses at such a fast rate and with any positive change we seek for animal welfare - it needs to start with people speaking about their concerns regarding these issues. Job well done.

Congrats girls!! hope you enjoy your new puppy, and remember he or she will always be a part of your family

congrats that is wonderful enjoy your new puppy

Congratulations! The new addition to your family is going to have lots of tender, loving care! Take good care of your new family member!

Congratulations! I certainly hope they are adopting from a shelter.

Never underestimate the power of two girls wanting a puppy! Please adopt a shelter doggie! And congratulations!!!

Every child should have a dog and cat.The love they will get from their fur pets will be like none other!

i have tree poppies for you, email me elvirakaren@aol.com

Way to go girls, can't wait to meet the new member of your family. That is wonderful you are going to adopt from a shelter there are many dogs just waiting to meet you.

Congrats and very happy for you, the dog and you guys are so blessed, God bless your family and your new puppy

As others have mentioned, I am happy for your success with the "likes." We are all anxious to see photos of you with your new family member. Hope you post some soon.

My name is Jerri Ashby. I love children and dogs. My dogs happen to be my children. I have two American Bulldogs. They are kennel trained, house broken, GREAT WITH CHILDREN, coupled to breed, pure breed, and full of energy. As much I love them, I am not able to keep them any longer. If someone can care for them, and keep together, I will give them to a loving home. I have papers for Hank, my 3 year-old male, and lost Susie's papers. She will be 3 in a few months. I think my two dogs would make a great fit in your home. If you are interested, please e-mail me with Hank and Susie as the subject. They are so well behaved that a lease isn't even required to walk them. I know you have your hearts set on a puppy and if you decide against my two, I know that y'all will get your puppy and give it a great, loving home. Jerri

Will you send pictures. Are you close to Louisiana? I'm sure you have already gotten all kinds of requests. American Bulldogs are fantastic. Our family has 3 girls and a young registered boxer. Our 11 yr old boxer recently breached the electronic fence and was hit by a truck.

Way to go girls for your persistence! And good job Dad for motivating the girls!!! This will be one lucky dog!!!

Congrads to u all Awesome job girls enjoy ur new baby

I did a "Like" for your post, and I shared it to over 20 social networks. If this does not help, I can hypnotist Dad for you. LOL

Be sure you ADOPT that new puppy, not purchase. Give a puppy a great home FOR LIFE! :)

Congratulations to The Girls and their new puppy. Sounds like unconditional love! We were happy to support you and to be 1 in over 1 million likes. Best wishes!

Congrats girls on your achievement. As others have mentioned above, please try an adopt a puppy from a shelter as there as so many puppies and dogs that need a good home. I for one have been working to start fostering since I already have one dog and amy currently not within the financial means to totally adopt another dog. So happy for you though and any puppy that will get a new forever home.

A puppy is a living breathing being and a serious responsibility .. not to mention a member of the family... not a prize to be played for in a game on facebook... screw you... this family SHOULD NOT have a puppy...

First of all there little girls. DO NOT CALL THEM IDIOTS. I think it's very cool what they did. They showed there dad how much they truly wanted a puppy. If you read the article correctly before IGNORANTLY jumping to conclusions you would of read that there old dog had passed away from cancer they obviously missed him/her and are ready to give another puppy a chance at a happy loving life. Kind of like a dream come true sorta thing. If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all. Way to go girls I just adopted a new puppy a few weeks ago myself. It's alot of work but I'm sure together you'll be able to handle it :) have fun

I am so excited for you and your puppy I agree you should have a puppy. Take good care of the puppy. It will be a best friend and just love you so much! Be sure to post a picture!

whats your problem, why be so nasty to these girls. they have had a dog previously which they lost to cancer.they sound like a family who will love and care for a pet.

If you read the whole story - they lost a dog to cancer - one they loved. They are now ready for a new member to add to their family. What an ignorant and irresponsible thing to do to call children idiots. They are adopting a pup and should be proud of themselves. The obviously took care of their OTHER dog that unfortunately died of cancer - which is tough on any family. Quit being a bully - it's not necessary. GOOD JOB GIRlS! Don't let ANYONE get you down with mean comments. It's unfortunate.

How could you be such an asshole to the 2 sweet girls. All they wany is a puppy to love, and for idiots the only one I see is you!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Karma could instantly be materialized by enough people thinking the same thing....you would instantly vanish from the planet, Poof gone! The world would instantaniously be a nicer place for everyone!

wouldn't want you for a mother. LIGHTEN UP, you sound like a very unhappy person

Congratulations girls, I'm sure you will give a beautiful puppy a loving home..well done! Xo :-)

Great job hope ur daddy buy u a doggie :) I want a pix

I don't understand the negative feedback. Anyone who has loved a pet and lost one to death knows how much it hurts and how lonely it is without the pet. Research proves we are happier and healthier with pets, and we are safer with a dog in the family. The girls came up with a clever, fun way to get a puppy. Nothing about this story or this family was negative. They loved the dog they lost to cancer. They will love their new puppy. What a bleak, grey, sad world the negative posters must live in; what a happy, loving, fun world the puppy and the family will live on!

We all want to know what they are going to call it...

I just hit the "like" button just before reading you story. My family and I know what it's like to lose a pet, just before Thanksgiving we lost our cat due to illness. So right in the middle of the holidays we went to our local shelters and just before the County pound closed we got our "new" 8-year old cat. We could not be happier. Good job girls, Dad lets see some pics.

So good to see something so cute & positive on Facebook congratulations girls I hope you & the rest of your family love your new puppy & give him/her a loving playful home to spend their life!!

Don't pay any attention girls to ANYONE willing to call you names. He or she didn't understand that A: you lost a dog to cancer and are ready for a new pup to help ease the pain of that loss and raise another great dog. B: You are on the ASPCA site which means you are rescuing a pup - GOOD FOR YOU - be proud of yourselves and NEVER let someone that has NO CLUE what they are talking about - bring you down. I am positive any pup will be lucky to have such a great family! Good JOB!

"So like this"? How about "please"? Do children actually use the word anymore or simply make demands?
