Puppy Mill Puppies

September is Puppy Mill Awareness Month—and we’re gearing up for a really cool event. With Pet360 and Catster, we’re co-hosting a Puppy Mill Twitter Chat to answer ALL of your puppy mill questions. Where do pet store puppies come from? What really happens to mill dogs when they can no longer breed? Is my dog from a puppy mill?  How can I help?

In addition to spreading awareness, we’ll be giving away lots of really cool loot—like our puppy mill message tee and tote bag! So join us on Wednesday, September 12, from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Use hashtag #EndPuppyMills to join the conversation.

See you there!

Need to stop puppy mills. People who do this do it only for the money and they really don't care about the animals.

There should be a law against puppy mills. I know the ASPCA goes in and rescues these dogs-thank God for you. If a law was passed that there would be consequences to pay for running a puppy mill, maybe there would be less of them

I pray that very soon that puppy mills will be totally ILLEGAL and any person with a puppy mill will be prosected and sentenced to jail time. No fees, straight jail time. They deserve to sit in jail and think about the hell they put these poor Dogs through. Now if I could have it my way I would do the exact same thing they do to the poor puppy mills Dogs to the owners. Make them live in the same hell that these Dogs live in day after day. I Love Dogs and it totally breaks my heart to know that this sick insane treatment of Animals is going on.

I agree with the statement that Theresa said. I strongly feel that the guilty party should be subjected to the exact treatment they subjected those poor little animal; who also feel cold, hunger and over all, absence of human communication, love, warmth.

They should all be banned. It is all about the money not about our 4 legged friends. They are not always in good health because of their start in life. This has to stop. The best dogs are rescued dogs not designer or AKC perfect dogs.

We all agree that mills should be banned. The real problem is the indiscriminate and irresponsible breeding of pets that can easily end up in shelters. Agreed most of these mixed breeds can still be wonderful pets. However, there is a completely seperate market for registered purebred pets and these are rarely found in shelters. Not everybody wants a mixed breed and these people have a right to their choices also and are not a part of the problem.

People who spend hundreds of $ on a pure bred dog do give them up to shelters. People are idiots. Did you know that 1 in 4 dogs in shelters are pure bred??? Amazing isn't it. Fortunately for a lot of them, there are several breed specific rescues that pull "their breed" from the shelters. People have a right to their choice but for God's sake, make an informed and educated choice!A choice not to buy from the newspaper, CL or an online site that ships 4 pound 6 week old Chihuahuas from Missouti!!!

We all want to stop puppy mills. However, you cannot assume that all pets offered in pet stores or online are from mills. Reputable and responsible breeders also so these sources to find homes.

It is a fact that all pet offered in pet stores and online are from puppy mills or backyard breeders (small scale millers). Reputable dog breeders would never, ever, adopt their puppies out to unknown adopters. The really good ones usually have a waiting list of adopters that have been throughly screened, home vist completed and just waiting for next years litter. Stop trying to sugar-coat the ugly facts. Pet store owners know exactly where they get their puppies and they just don't give a damn about the parents suffering in the mills! Wise up.

It is true. NO reputable breeder would sell to a pet store, or allow his or her dogs to be sold on line to unknown homes. We must face facts here. If you BUY from a pet store, you are perpetuating this horror. I am the adoptive pet parent of a rescued former puppy mill breeder "Mom". She is the most wonderful Dog, but was used & then put out on the streets to survive. She has had mammary cancer from not being spayed, a heart condition from no vet care, few teeth from improper nutrition & neglect, yet she is sweet, smart, loving & loyal beyond belief. I will keep fighting against the ignorance & cruelty that allows other sweet creatures like her to live in such horrible conditions. NO PET STORE PUPPIES. You are only ignoring the facts if you purchase your pet there. If it no longer profits the store, or the terrible breeders, then it will stop. Do your part today.

How can anyone say Reputable Breeder? Have yet to meet one, because for the most part they are still using these babies for breeding and make monies off of them.. Do you watch them and make sure they are totally vetted? Some come to the vets for tail docking, shots, the usual, but once they sell these kids, they don't follow up and those kids are then bred out.. All around, breeders are the same as a puppy mill and with the economy like it is, they are coming out of the nooks and crannies even more.. People who don't know their heads from a hole in the ground are trying their hands in breeding and selling.. ALL BREEDERS if reputable would not mind being Licensed and should agree to stipulations.. Like how many times a yr to breed and maintain recs on all dogs, even those sold.. But they should be made to Spay/Neut what they sell to help reduce the so called wannabe breeders.. Do you know how many dogs come into my rescue from breeders that have never been vaccinated nor seen a vet? Come with skin problems like demodectic mange and they didn't know what it was? The attrocities to these poor helpless animals is more than enourmous, it is outrageous and it needs to be stopped.. And the laws are here to help, but we hit brick walls when complaints are filed. Our judicial system is too chicken/scared to do the right thing.. So when they try to hit the pearly gates, God will know what to tell them..

Who do we harass to get stricter laws and penalties on this? Someone point me in the right direction - be glad to harass senators or lawmakers

After seeing so many animals gassed in a city shelter it is hard to reconcile bringing new animals into the world. Before you buy a dog or cat please go ask to witness the animals being gassed. The chambers are similar to a large open from the top freezer. It is difficult to volunteer and discouraging, too, when breeders keep supplying our shelters with dogs, mostly.

Puppy mills should be outlawed. They are cruel and unnecessary. Many of these puppies are put down because they are not sold.

Two weeks ago I adopted a puppy mill rescue puppy. He is wonderful except for his separation anxiety is so bad he keeps think when we go for a car ride. He is not coming back home. So I can say for a fact that puppy mills are the worst places on the earth and all the people that run one, should go straight to hell.

some of the most wonderful pets come from shelters, they deserve a chance, with all the great dogs and cats available at the shelter why would anyone buy a pet from a puppy mill or pet shop?

7-8 in what time zone? EST?

Why would anyone buy a puppy from a puppy mill they are so mistreated and every Puppy Mill in the US should be closed down by our Federal Officers someone has got to get controll of these Mills so many Dogs and Puppies die each year !! Anyone caught running a puppy mills shouls be Jailed by the Federal and should have to pay for each dog or puupy that was taken from them for any Health problems or Medications that they would need and also Fined a big Fine for each animal !! I'm a dog lover and I can't stand the thing I hear or see so I always turn it over to my GOD and the Police Dept.If I were a JUDGE everyone of the so called humans would get my max !! Please help to stop these PUPPY MILLS and all the other that these poor dogs go through !!

I just would like to put out there if no one buys from these mills what happens to these puppys? I mean are they killed or sold to people that do unspeakable things to them this has always entered my mind. What happens to them?

my mom's cat and believe me when I say he's hers, I feed him and take care of him but he loves her more. Anyways, lately she's been having to spend some nights over at a friends to help them with some things and Parker goes crazy, he tears at the front door, cries for her, and tears at the curtains in our windows trying to find her, and shows http://goo.gl/Veawb and other various signs of stress. When she gets home he's happy and content, I realize he has separation anxiety, he's very attached to her and nothing I do really helps him, got any ideas?

There are many puppy mills all across the USA & beyond, and a small portion of them are legitimate busisnesses who do properly care for their animals. But, the fact is, most are just in it for the money and without consciousness of their actions to these defenseless animals. A person does have a right to a pure breed dog and some of these expensive dogs do end up in shelters, like my neglected pure breed lab. I wasn't looking for a pure breed, but his sad eyes just spoke to me after we just lost our mixed breed dog (lab, pit & rot). I was sad, but his eyes spoke of his pain. In truth, I have not or would never buy a dog from a store or puppy mill. There are so many wonderful pets in shelters. The only choice to end puppy mills is to have people aware and speak out to authorities when they know someone is breeding in such terrible conditions. There will always be cruel people. To stop them means to stand up to them.

Searching for in advance to finding out more from you afterward!…… http://goo.gl/dxkku

whenever I talk to people about puppy mills...1/5 doesn't even know what a puppy mill is! I strongly believe that there are more people who love and want the best for our innocent furry friends than those who could care less...so spread the word! Majority always wins!

Newtonville Pets had been flourishing in it's community for many years. How do we put an end to it? It has a good reputation among the pople in the neighboring area who don't know any better. I know people who bought a so-called "deginer dog" from them, spent a fortune, and brought home a puppy with Girardia. They still don't make the conenction. The dog has a sensitive stomach and can only eat certain things and is only 2 years old, and they still don't make the connection.

Shameful, disgaceful and damn cruel. The pet shops that deal with puppy mills should be closed down and have to serve jail time. This is animal cruelty and the law is totally against it. Jail all of them. d

All puppy mills should be closed down and banned forever. No one with any compassion for animals could operate a puppy mill. It's just plain cruel.
