ASPCA Arrests Woman for Starving Two Puppies

Who could starve two puppies? Apparently, Gillian Irving could. On April 20, ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) Agent Ann Kelly arrested the 27-year-old Bronx woman for allegedly neglecting and starving her two seven-month-old Pit Bulls, Cagney and Lacey.

It was last February when HLE Agents first responded to a complaint that two skinny dogs were living inside Irving’s Bronx apartment. Upon arrival, Agents seized the two emaciated dogs and transported them to ASPCA’s Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital for life-saving treatment. ASPCA veterinarians determined Cagney and Lacey had been starved—weighing only 16.4 and 15.2 pounds.

After receiving treatment, Cagney now weighs 27.1 pounds and Lacey weighs 26.9 pounds—a 65 and 77 percent increase, respectively. Both dogs are continuing their recovering at the hospital and will eventually be made available for adoption.

As a result of her actions, Irving was charged with two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. If convicted, she faces up to two years in jail and/or a $2,000 fine. Irving is due in Bronx Criminal Court on August 22.

Oh my goodness! Who could starve two poor adorable puppies! Only 2,000 dollars! It should really be more then that! Wow..... I'll take them! But sadly I live in Wisconsin and have two adorable shorkies Nano and Pico.

My goodness - I am at a loss. I am trying to contact everyone to help a stray cat that is at my house and needs vetarian attention. This is a young cat (under a year I would guess) who showed up starving. I can't bring it in my home because I can't chance it giving my house cats feline luekemia, etc. This cat is starving (I have been feeding it - it is in my shed). I was willing to take it to the vet to pay for worming and shots and neutering, but I just realized yesterday that he has a very large lump on his side. Perhaps why he is starving - can't hunt? I do not have the money to pay for this - the rest would have been a struggle. I have contacted all the shelters and none will even take him in. I jumped on this site to try and contact someone to see if help where availble only to find that there is no contact information here. How disappointing. If there is - it is not easily found - it should be on the About Us page.

Oh I apoligize - I did finally see the contact place but then when I tired to get through I was in put in an electronic gridlock and when you finally thought you were getting through I kept getting a loop of “that extension does not answer”.
