The nearly 300 million egg-laying hens in our country live in cages that afford each hen just 67 square inches of space—smaller than a sheet of paper. That’s outrageous!

Last year, a bipartisan group of U.S. representatives introduced a bill in the House promising egg-laying hens better living conditions. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), along with senators from both sides of the aisle, recently introduced a companion measure in the Senate. This important bill needs your support!

The Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2012 would increase the amount of space given to laying hens (they’re currently so cramped that most cannot even stretch their wings), and allow them to do some of the things chickens love doing: perching, dust-bathing and nesting. Plus, various inhumane practices would be banned. This is a major step forward! The bill would also require that egg cartons disclose the standards under which the eggs were produced so consumers know what they’re buying.

This bill is a common-sense measure supported by the United Egg Producers, the American Veterinary Medical Association and various consumer and animal welfare groups, including the ASPCA. And right now, our nation’s hens need your support, too. Please contact your senators today and ask them to co-sponsor S. 3239 to provide better lives for egg-laying hens!

I am appalled by the efforts of Senator Feinstein and her cronies to undermine the advances in farm animal treatment and living conditions put forth in the Egg Products Inspection Act of 2012. The proposed humane conditions of the act are minimal, at best, but are a major improvement in quality of life for these chickens. For Feinstein and her colleagues to try to block this act, well, to me it's tantamount to animal cruelty and they should be brought up on charges. PLEASE co-sponser S. 3239. I went to the mobile clinic to spay my dog,unfortunately I was not aware that people with pit bulls made an appointment. I was given a rain check and told that I could call to make an appointment.The problem came when I called. The menu is so crazy that I can't make an appoitment. When I finally reached some one he could not help and told me to call again. I must have tried from 5:00-7:30 to no avail. I am headed to the mobile clinic again at the crack of dawn without my appointment. Please address this phone issue because it is very fustrating for the seniors like me. Thanks.

It's time that people realize there is no positive effect to torturing animals that produce our food. There is no excuse for such inhumane treatments of helpless creatures, and it is time to enforce stricter regulations to provide them a quality of life. It's not asking much.

Whenever you choose to support incrementalist policies that improve some aspects of other species' welfare, do not confuse it with the solution. We never escape the most egregious harms we do to other species when we consume them — or their eggs in this case. If this is not made clear in every policy and incremental improvement, we only perpetuate the harm. When we give false witness that carnism is humane, we become the harm. I am a true lover of pets and I sure have plenty and always wanting more, so i love that you do the work you do I would love to be apart of it but your horrible commercials that starting airing it just sickness me and my 4 year old daughter who crys every time where shocked when it comes across the air i find it irresponsible to show such horrific pictures that affect us so much who already do so much for animals scrambling for the remote to change the channel and the ones do like enjoy trotting animals. I dont know what todo my landlord lives in the same yard as me and she had 12 hens they have been living in the same coop ever since they were chicks recently a couple of them jumped over the backyard fence and got tore up pretty bad by 2 pitbulls its not the pitbulls fault because they were just protecting there domain Anyways the last time it happened we had to help her sow the chicken up. Now days i walk out side in the morning to get fresh air and all i smell is rotten eggs and chicken poo,something needs to happen here but my Man doesnt want me to say anything to them because he thinks we will get kicked out. What to do what to do. To me this is Cruelty,And Neglect and i just dont know how to deal with it.

Oh, my God people! Wake up! This bill is a nightmare for chickens. If this passes, using battery cages(a bit bigger means nothing) will become the national standard. It will override any state laws which actually help chickens(like those that restrict or deny the use of cages at all), deny states the opportunity to enact laws which create more humane conditions, and deny citizens the right to vote on ballot iniatives that create better ocnditions also. Why the ASPCA is endorsing this is a mystery to all other animal rights groups. It was written by the egg producers themselves to try to restrict legislation against their inhumane methods. For more info go to hfa.org(humane farming). They fight for real humane conditions for animals. I will be surprised if the ASPCA posts this comment.
