100,000 Take Action Against Puppy Mills—Want to Join Them?

Monday, May 21, 2012 - 1:30pm

YES! We are super-happy to report that as of today, more than 100,000 people have signed our "No Pet Store Puppies" pledge! The pledge aims to reduce the demand for puppy mill puppies by asking consumers to not buy any items at a store that sells puppies. "Huh?" you ask?

You see, the logic is simple: Most pet store puppies come from puppy mills. Even if you know better than to buy a puppy from a pet store, by purchasing any item from a store that sells puppies, you are still supporting the puppy mill industry. So please, don’t buy anything! No kibble, no kitty litter, no toys—no nothing!

And while you’re at it, visit NoPetStorePuppies.com and take the pledge. It’s not that we don’t trust your new humane shopping plans, but adding your name to our pledge list will go a long way in proving to the industry that we mean business. As they say…it takes an army!

Don't forget to spread the word to friends and family on Facebook and Twitter! It's time we put an end to puppy mills.

I will never shop for a pet - I will always rescue my next best friend.

I've always adopted or let strays adopt me, and I always will!

I WILL NEVER, IN MY LIFE, BUY ANYTHING FROM A PET SUPPLY STORE THAT SELLS PUPPIES BECAUSE BONDS ARE MADE NOT BOUGHT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adopt!!

No more puppy mills, PERIOD!

Please take action NOW to stop Puppy Mills!! This is not something we can put off any longer!!

Stop Puppy Mills

I would adopt from a shelter over a pet store anyday

i never ever by from a pet store. stop the mills adopt.

Neuter and spay and rescue an animal....

don't buy from breeders of mills, we don't need to overpopulated any more, and this pets suffer tremendously, instead adopt from the local shelter, that is what i have done, never believe in pet stores that sell dogs or cats, and nevertheless mills or breeders they only profit for their own good, never caring for the welfare of the animal.

Don't shop in the stores that sell puppies because they support puppy mills!! If we all stay away, they will have to close!!

Stop puppy mills now.

It's about time!!

I do not and will not buy ANYTHING from stores that sell animals!

...and what will happen with the puppies in these pet shops?

Glad to see this happening. Something must to done to curb the puppy mills out there. So many animals suffering so somebody can make money off of them. I know tere are a lot of animal lovers that applaud what you are doing. Bless you for your efforts.

no more cruelty!

Puppy do not need to be in puppy mills. They are our best friends!

Once i get a pet I will find my pet in a shelter

It's time to rid this country of ALL puppy mills, and to really put some muscle into the laws pertaining to animal cruelty, and dog fighting.

I won't buy anything from a store that sells animals.

No more pet stores selling puppies! I see too many good dogs at shelters who would love a FURever home! And don't let it stop there you can adopt almost any animal at Special rescue organizations! You name it, dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles, and horses can be adopted! All animals deserve a chance :)

I like that this mission includes the "Don't shot *at all*" message. Many more people are realizing that they shouldn't purchase dogs from pet stores, but even buying dog food or supplies there supports the store and continues the horrible cycle of puppy mill dogs. Twice recently, I was in out of town areas and stopped in pet shops I'd never visited before. Both times, I saw something on the shelves I *really* wanted to get for my dogs but haven't because they're usually too expensive to justify buying. But in these stores, they were much cheaper. Excited, I grabbed them from the shelf and continued to look around- until I saw the puppies for sale. I immediately put the items back and left the stores. Poor Shiloh and Cheyenne really would have liked the toys and treats I was finally going to get them, but I'm sure they were glad too that I didn't perpetuate the puppy mill problem, even indirectly. We'll just have to wait till they're on sale at a local store that promotes ADOPTION, not puppy mills. Thank you for getting the message out to more people with this campaign!

So many animals are put to death because people buy anmals instead of adopting. Where is the sense in this?

What will happen to the puppies in the puppy mills?

PLEASE! Ban puppy mills! Dogs are kept in absolutely deplorable conditions and treated inhumanely. It's more important to give thousands of shelter dogs a forever home than being murdered. Don't shop. Adopt!!

No Puppy Mills!!!!!!!!!!!

All my dogs are rescue dovs, never go anywhere else. All my pups are so greatful for the life I give them. Why would I pay for a puppy, that I dont have time for! Humane societies for lifer

Hundreds of thousands of dogs suffer in puppy mills in this country. They are prisoners of greed. It is time to put an end to puppy mills!

Never never never shop.......only adopt.........or rescue....just like my three little ones....

thanks to the ASPCA for caring for the rescued and injured and I will only encourage people to adopt from animal rescue and adoption agencies because they deserve a second chance!

DON'T BUY WHILE SHELTER DOGS DIE!

I'm a puppy mill survivor and so I speak from experience - NEVER buy a dog from a pet store or over the internet, please!

It HAS to STOP !

Don't shop! Adopt!!!

who cares... puppies are so ugly.

You're an idiot

I promise.

Stop the puppy mills and backyard breeders and toughen up the laws for animal abuse.

While I agree it's important to adopt animals, especially from those at high-kill shelters, and I think puppy mills should be outlawed, it seems a bit hypocritical to say that people should ONLY adopt. What about these poor puppies in the pet stores? Are they being 'sacrificed' for the sake of the cause to get rid of puppy mills? I don't think their lives should be valued any less than those animals in shelters. The end does not always justify the means. Wouldn't the better way to go about this be pressing for legislation that requires breeders and stores to abide by certain standards when caring for the animals they bring into this world and sell? What happens to the pet store dogs who are not sold?

That's a good question, how can we help the puppies that are trapped in pet stores if we refuse to buy them. Unless somebody sees that conditions are bad, then the puppies will remain there. How do we save the ones left behind? What happens to puppies that are never bought? What do the pet store owners do with them? I am trying to collect information about puppy mills and pet stores, so if someone could answer, I would be grateful.

I took the pledge, it was not a problem to either i have always felt this way. i have always adopted or rescued. and always will. and it is not just dogs i have done this with i do not discriminate against any animal.

Its a disgrace against human nature to sell puppies in stores from puppy mills. BE SMART, ADOPT!

This is only a minute step of becoming a true 'human being.' If you must eat meat, at least please ensure that the animal was raised free range, not fed hormones, tortured, etc. Preferrably, no meat. If eggs, cage free.
