Michael Vick to Adopt a New Dog? Not So Fast!

It's true. We don't think Michael Vick would make a good doggie parent. The NFL superstar recently claimed on Piers Morgan Tonight that he's interested in getting a dog. Call us crazy, but we don't think it's a good idea. Far from it.

Despite spending 19 months in prison for running an illegal interstate dog fighting business, Vick hasn't expressed a shred of empathy toward the dogs he brutalized and killed. And rather than talk about the horrors of dog fighting, he has consistently chosen to focus on the consequences of getting caught.

In a nutshell, his actions are self-serving. We've seen little remorse and even less compassion. And let's not forget, he caused unspeakable suffering to hundreds of innocent dogs. Frankly, the ASPCA has serious concerns about Vick's ability to be a responsible pet parent.

NO WAY! There is absolutely no way that Michael Vick should EVER be allowed to own a dog or any other kind of pet for that matter. He is an absolute MONSTER! He has shown no remorse for the dogs he killed, and thus does not deserve to be forgiven. He's a horrible, horrible, sick, evil creature that should instead be subject to the same treatment he gave those poor dogs. Thank you, APSCA, for opposing Vick's ability to adopt a dog. I can see my monthly donation and membership are not wasted. I used to support the HSUS, but cancelled my membership when the president of that organization came out in favor of allowing Vick to adopt. Obama lost my support when he did likewise. (Unfortunately, Romney feels like luggage is more important than the family pet, so I'm left without any candidate to support.)Keep up the fight, ASPCA, and I'll continue my support.

Michael Vick doesnt deserve to be loved unconditionally by animal! At one point, I am sure the very first dog he had,loved him..... and he obviously betrayed that dog.... and every dog thereafter.....maybe all of them loved him at first, until they knew what he wanted them for..... You dont deserve another chance to have that kind of love.

Michael Vick - I used to respect you and root for you but now I pray for you. Please do not even think about adopting any animal. I am not going to cuss or scream at you. If you really would like to do something for the dogs then Donate To BARK Bandit Adoption Rescue of K-9s. We would put your money to good use. Some would probably say they wouldnt even want your money, but I would take it for the dogs. Again please do not consider adopting one.

Dear Stephen I'm going to try to help you put this in perspective. First of all I think are trying to just cause a debate and get noticed on here. You are speaking to people who dedicate their life's to be a voice for the innocent animals that don't have any choice. So when you say "move on with our life's" remember this is our life. Dear Stephen, I read your post and We are all entitled to our opinions. Vick's punishment was not enough from my point of view. Animal abusers move on and hurt humans as well, he would not be as kind to you of that I am sure. I do not only work for the safety of animals, but I work as a guardian and advocate with special needs, as well as children who suffer from abuse and neglect at the hands of the people they trust the most THEIR BIRTH PARENTS. This can't be true. I don't think there is one person who loves animals that would ever agree this guy could be rehabilitated to have any decent compassion towards a pet. Anyone who finds joy in seeing a dog suffer for enjoyment is in my opinion forever messed up in the head. Too many people don't know what he actually did to those poor dogs. If I have to hear another person say "he did his time, leave him alone" I will lose it. He does not deserve to play professional ball and he most certainly does not deserve to own any animal every again. I did see the Eagles play against Oakland his first year back and it was great to hear him booed every time he took the field and the fans to cheer wildly when he was sacked. I proudly wore my ASPCA shirt to that game and told anyone who would listen what a horrible human being he is.

I am a Christian and a dog owner, who simply adores my dog. I would be furious and devastated if someone hurt my baby. Yet, I understand that there are some people in the world, especially today, that need to learn how to love people and animals. Mike Vick has publicly acknowledged his wrongdoing (I've read and seen interviews, and I believe that God can change a human being. Who knows? His reformed attitude toward dogs (and other animals) may lead to many young and old people discarding their negative viewpoints about dog fighting and abuse. Let's pray that this is the outcome because I think that God would be happier with our ability to forgive and allow a man to earn his second chance at dog ownership.

Under NO circumstances should he EVER be allowed to own another animal. EVER. And Mary - if you don't think he was personally involved in the dogfighting...then you are sadly misinformed. I suggest you read the transcripts of his trial and educate yourself as to what this man is REALLY guilty of and then see if you feel the same way. I'm sorry his daughter doesn't have a dog because of her father's heinous actions - which included throwing his family's own pets into the ring as BAIT. But no animal should ever be put at risk again to satisfy his "wants" or "needs." One day, he will have to answer for his actions - as I believe we all will. In the meantime, as a society, we must protect those who cannot protect themselves.
