Michael Vick to Adopt a New Dog? Not So Fast!

It's true. We don't think Michael Vick would make a good doggie parent. The NFL superstar recently claimed on Piers Morgan Tonight that he's interested in getting a dog. Call us crazy, but we don't think it's a good idea. Far from it.

Despite spending 19 months in prison for running an illegal interstate dog fighting business, Vick hasn't expressed a shred of empathy toward the dogs he brutalized and killed. And rather than talk about the horrors of dog fighting, he has consistently chosen to focus on the consequences of getting caught.

In a nutshell, his actions are self-serving. We've seen little remorse and even less compassion. And let's not forget, he caused unspeakable suffering to hundreds of innocent dogs. Frankly, the ASPCA has serious concerns about Vick's ability to be a responsible pet parent.

why is this even something that could happen. we would never let a child abuser have children. this should be a lifetime stigma he carries. absolutely no pets ever.

People are either a dog fighter or they're not. It's the same as being a murderer, no one "learns" to be a murderer and then changes their mind after getting caught. I could never fight dogs, beat my child or set my dog or cat on fire. Once a pathetic pet or child abuser always an abuser. No pets for Vick, wish we could say no children for Vick either!

I find it hard to believe that after everything he did to those dogs, that part of his sentence didn't include Prohibiting him from ever owning a dog.... Ever!!! He was an adult of sound mind while he tortured those poor souls....isn't that enough to show he would never be worthy of a dogs love?? I agree with the person who said that he should have to tell his kids why he can't have a dog, and live with that! There should be consequences for our actions..... I hope they also apply to football stars!

no way should michael vick be allowed to own another pet no matter what breed. he should have to register in neighborhoods and not be allowed w/in 100 feet of any pets or wild life ever! i hope his tail got reamed while he was in jail ~ still would not make up for all the pain, misery, suffering, torture, sickness, and death he has caused already ~

Those children of his witnessed the dog fights that he used to have. Doesn't abuse beget abuse??? I teach school and I must be finger printed (FBI check) in order to get a job. No I don't think he should have a second chance with owning a dog. My brother and sister thinks everybody deserves a second in life but Vick's dogs never got a second chance and he should never have another dog again. I could say alot more but I don't want to get anybody mad. I wish he wasn't playing football and I don't mind when he gets hurt because when I see him I see all the dogs he killed.

Why does he think he needs a loving, kind soul in his life, when he did horrible things. All of these bothersome people should be eliminated from the idea that he should adopt. The dog would do one thing wrong and what would he do it....slap it around, cause injury. The answer is NO absolutely not.

Michael Vick should never be allowed to own, control, or even be AROUND an animal for as long as he lives. This man has performed some of the most heinous acts on "man's best friend" and he has shown time and again that he isn't sad about WHAT he did, only that he got caught. If he wants to procreate, that's his business and right. But this man should never be able to care for an animal while he's alive.

Why is he even allowed to adopt or consider adopting? Shouldn't it have been part of his sentencing to never have another pet. I would hope that would be part of the felony charges of his conviction! We need stronger laws in this country for animal abuse, torture & neglect.

The only reason that I can think of that Mr. Vick would say he wanted a dog is that he really wants pubicity, good or bad. It is good for his career. He is clueless about his cruelty and should never own a dog. Why can't he just collect cars or something?

Michael Vick should never ever be allowed to be the care taker of any animal. He's not fooling anyone. If that sick asshole is allowed to adopt a dog again, I think we all should write a constant flow of letters begging that Michael Vick not be allowed to adopt another dog! I don't think the amount of time he spent in prison was enough for all that he did to those animals! I don't think he should be playinf for the NFL because I feel like he is a role model to a lot of kids and I don't want them getting the wrong impression from him.

I feel he has no right to own a pet. Yes, he served his time. But many of those animals are still out there suffering and being supported both finacially and emotionally. If he has a real interest in animals he should go volunterr at Best Friends in Utah where most of his dogs ended up.

Please stop with all the comparisons to pedophiles. Its different. People who abuse animals see animals as inferior creatures. They don't think its wrong. They have the mindset that "So what? Its not like its a person. Its just a dog." I believe that they can be reformed to see that it IS wrong. Pedophiles know what they are doing is wrong and they do it anyway which is why they can't be trusted to stop. My mom told me once that my grandpa used to hate cats when she was a kid. They had outdoor farm cats and he would kick them around and yell at them and etc. Now he has two precious indoor cats that he loves and takes good care of.

I am glad that your grandpa was able to *mend* his ways. But the sad reality is that most sociopaths and psychopaths start out by torturing animals. I personally think Vick is a psychopath. Anyone who could treat innocent animals the way he did can only be explained by a psychopathic personality, a personality that has no conscience. Psychopaths cannot be rehabilitated. However, they are very good at acting like they are rehabilitated. In my opinion, he isn't sorry for anything he's done, he is only sorry that he got caught. He should NEVER be allowed to have a dog under any circumstances. I sincerely hope that no one will fall for his - I deserve a second chance ACT - and let him adopt a dog!
