It’s Confirmed: Michael Vick Has a New Dog

It’s confirmed: Michael Vick has a new dog. To truly become a model of the type of behavior Vick wishes to teach his children—that animals deserve to be treated with compassion and respect—Vick should take the opportunity to “break the cycle” and “be an instrument of positive change” by expressing remorse about the dogs he brutalized and killed with his own hands. This is something that we’ve never heard him do publically.

Because of this, we have serious concerns about Vick’s ability to be a responsible pet owner. We can only hope that he will set the right example for his children by teaching them to foster humane habits and a lifelong bond with their family pet.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it was ruled he was to have no more dogs, contact with dogs, anything with dogs. I worked public safety for 20 years and it sickens me that we still have the best judicial system in this country money can buy. No one can convince me he was able to do this without paying someone. Please say you'll be monitoring him the best you can? I'm very worried for that poor fur baby.

Does anyone know who was dumb enough to let him adopt from them? Did someone else adopt the dog and give it to Vick? If so, that is a breach of the adoption contract and the dog can legally be taken away from him. Why is THIS information not being disclosed to the public? This shelter/rescue/dog store must know that they WILL go out of business because no true animal lover will ever support them again!

I don't believe that any person that can treat dogs like he did, can ever truely love, care for and appreciate what dogs are really about. It almost sounds like he may be doing this out of spite. If he truely is sorry and remorseful for what he has done, then he should physically be working to make amends by volunteering for a Pit Bull rescue or a local Humane Society. Cleaning cages, washing, grooming, walking, and learning how to really treat, care for, and love our canine campanions. I know he has donated money to try and show his remorse but money is nothing to him and proves nothing to me that he is sincere. Maybe after a couple hundred hours of physically working with rescues, I would give him a second chance.

Vick is a dog killing sociopath who should never again be allowed to own a dog or any other animal. He personally killed hundreds of dogs, sometimes with his bare hands choking them to death. He never did any time for these crimes - he was in jail for his dog fighting ring conspiracy. The actual cruelty he personally engaged in was never punished.

I'm not sure on what to say about this matter. While I believe that we should always give second chances, I also feel like this man doesn't have the right to own another dog. I feel he should be monitored and take classes on abuse, dog handling, and spend time at shelters dealing with animals suffering from abuse. I guess only time will tell on this choice.

There are other ways Michael Vick could teach his children to respect animals without owning one. Why doesn't he and his family volunteer time at animal shelters or raise money to help abused and neglected animals. I think that one would a good start without putting any innocent animals at risk.

is that any shelter or organization that would adopt any animal out to the likes of Michael Vick should be stringently reviewed by the authorities. Money and privilege sadly have a way of circumventing justice, and it seems that in this case they have circumvented common sense as well. I'd like, for example, to see what kind of "adoption fee" (read: bribe) was paid for this very sweet looking dog. On the one hand, I don't think Michael should be allowed anywhere near animals. I think that the idea of depriving Vick's children of the joys of pet ownership is sad, though: Why should the children pay for the sins of the father? The only way I would see Michael Vick's owning a dog as even remotely feasible is if the local animal welfare authorities paid frequent, unannounced, spot checks on the animal and how the family is relating to him/her, but even that would be subject to too much "wiggle room" to satisfy me that the dog is indeed in a loving home. And if anything happens to disrupt the integrity of that home, say, a divorce, the dog should go with the ex wife and kids and not left in the hands of Mr. Vick. Actually, I always thought that a suitable post-incarceration community service sentence would entail Mr. Vick cleaning shelter cages for at least eight hours every single day off that he has from his overpaid and overhyped job as a professional football player, for maybe, say, the next fifteen years or so. Preferably, without gloves. He can fund raise for animal welfare agencies by signing over a portion of his overinflated salary to them for the balance of his professional football career. There is no need to make him a spokesman against animal abuse and dog fighting. This lout doesn't deserve a public spotlight, even if he claims to have repented of his heinous treatment of animals.

What murdering scum deserves a second chance?!! It's shamefule that the courts allowed him to get away without agreeing to NEVER own another animal of any sort. IS anyone watching him? I know that HSUS has publicly supported his future owning of a pet for years, but I've volunteered at enough shelters to know how strict the reputable ones are to adopt out dogs. For goodness sake, I've seen wonderful families turned down because they don't have a fenced in yard, or because they would only get a dog walker and not doggie daycare. What shelter in their right mind would adopt a dog to Michael Vick? What reputable breeder? I can only imagine he got it from a backyard breeder, a pet store, or HSUS. Any info?

He doesn't get it, a dog is propery. I have two rescue dogs that are now my kids with paws, they came from abuse and neglect and are the best dogs. All it took was love and patience. Grady still puts his head down when I have to put on his orange scarf to go for a run, because of hunting, I think it reminds him of someone putting things over his head and around his neck that were not good, other than that we overcame the hunger, the, my hand is to pet not to hurt and the I am never going to leave you for long periods of time, unless I have good back up. There is NO excuse for what he did and don't ever tell me he did not know it was wrong. Justice would have been having him live the life of one of his dogs. Did this guy have any sort of EDUCATION!!!

The only way to make it clear to the ASPCA that their decision to support Michael Vick is to not donate to them and to make sure that anyone you know doesn't donate to them. They are supposed to be advocating for animals, not Michael Vick.

Michael Vic felt no remorse. He thought the whole thing was a joke. And so did his friends. He isn't going to change. I only hope he doesn't mistreat this sweet dog when no ones looking. Dog fighting can be deep rooted and nothing is wrong with it in their eyes. He may only torture this dog due to resentment of getting caught. Or take it out on the dog when he's having a bad day.
