It’s Confirmed: Michael Vick Has a New Dog

It’s confirmed: Michael Vick has a new dog. To truly become a model of the type of behavior Vick wishes to teach his children—that animals deserve to be treated with compassion and respect—Vick should take the opportunity to “break the cycle” and “be an instrument of positive change” by expressing remorse about the dogs he brutalized and killed with his own hands. This is something that we’ve never heard him do publically.

Because of this, we have serious concerns about Vick’s ability to be a responsible pet owner. We can only hope that he will set the right example for his children by teaching them to foster humane habits and a lifelong bond with their family pet.

I love you guys at the ASPCA, but I think you couldn't be more wrong on this issue. Vick paid his debt to society. And he **DID** apologize and express remorse publicly -- all the way back in 2007. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2993103 People are capable of change. Vick has clearly turned his life around substantially since his dog fighting days. Do you really think that he would jeopardize his second chance at life by reentering dog fighting? Especially now that everyone will be watching him with hawk-like eyes? I don't think so, and I sincerely doubt that you actually do either.

agreed!!! i mean, sex offenders don't get multiple chances...they get put on a sexual predator list. michael vick MURDERED who knows how many innocent dogs all because he gets some sort of sick pleasure from it! he should not be allowed to get another dog! not only do i not think he is remorseful, i don't think he thinks he was ever wrong! not only should the dog be taken away, but so should his kids! every single person like him should experience the SAME inhumane treatment they are forcing on these dogs!

He felt so sorry and pleaded to the public AFTER he was caught and try try and save his $$ making career. Im sure he shed a tear everytime he fought a dog, used puppies as bait, burned them, drowned them and burried them alive and the gashed up dogs suffering with home vet care.

I totally agree...Do you know what people like us who already own and love animals have to go through to adopt an animal...it that was I my record I would NEVER see another animal being adopted by me...that's just sick... Everyone does deserve a second chance so I do hope that they are treating it like a child adoption and making unannounced periodic visits. THEY SHOULD!!!!!! Not a fair system. I tried to adopt a chi recently and I had to all but give them my first born child. I passed but was just too late for that specific one. Unbelievable what being famous can get you!!!!!!

I agree. I have hard that he is profoundly sorry about all of his cruelty to animals. He was raised in a different kind of culture, but he has overcome this, and spoken to others about this. If he got a dog, I am sure it was because of a human desire to have a pet to love. People can change, you know, the way they feel and the way they see life.

I think you can argue that the public shouldn't be hard of him for his past if he paid his debt (though I totally disagree when it comes to severe animal abuse or child abuse) but that doesn't mean he gets to OWN A DOG. If I were to brutally kill your children or your pet by hanging them, electrocuting them, drowning them, beating them, or using them for fighting bait, would you want me anywhere near your children or pets in the future? No. People like Michael Vick have a sickness and it is very sad. He did not kill one or two dogs, which is still absolutely unacceptable, he murdered dozens of animals of the course of several years. If you go find the federal indictment against Michael Vick, you change your tune. While I admit he served his time and "apologized", I can't see how his "apology" can be considered sincere. I find it difficult to believe that someone can change into a kind,compassionate pet owner, when you read the horrible thing he did to innocent dogs. And they were innocent dogs. They only became fighting dogs after Vick and his friends trained them to fight.

I don't think the isssue is whether or not he would jeopardize his "second chance" by dog fighting again. I think the issue is that anyone that murdered innocent dogs the way he did, over and over again, should be allowed to own a pet! Clearly the guy won't risk his $100 million dollar football contract by fighting dogs!!! But what will he do when the dog poops in the house or makes too much noise. That is the issue. Michael Vick may have paid his dues criminally, but he seems to have no remorse for what he did. Anyone who could have EVER been so cruel and reckless, resulting in the needless slaughter and suffering of SOOOOO many dogs, should be prohibited from ever having a dog again. Yes, people will be watching, but my fear is for the poor dog who has been "chosen" to be his dog. You are entitled to your opinion, but I agree with the stance of the ASPCA. Vick paid his debt to society? Are you kidding me? He served jail time for interstate gambling/racketeering. Not ONE day for animal abuse! He has shown no remorse for what he did. His pathetic appearances he makes to declare that he is a changed person, have never included an apology to those dogs he drowned, electrocuted, beat to death and otherwise mamed for life! Nor has he apologized to the general public for being the disgusting :human being" he is!
