Springsteen Daughter’s Appeal to Gov. Christie: Sign Horse Slaughter Ban!

Back in June, the New Jersey Legislature overwhelmingly passed a bill to prohibit the slaughter, transport, and sale of horses for human consumption within the state. Unfortunately, Governor Chris Christie has not yet signed the bill into law, and it’s not clear that he intends to.

With the clock ticking, several prominent New Jersey horse owners, equestrians and animal advocates, including Jessica Springsteen—daughter of Bruce—have sent a letter to Governor Chris Christie urging him to approve the horse slaughter ban. Christie is famously a huge Bruce Springsteen fan: Will a direct plea from The Boss’s daughter move him to finally act?

Americans don’t eat horse meat (it is shipped overseas), and 80% of American voters are opposed to the slaughter of U.S. horses for human consumption. What are you waiting for, Governor Christie?

If you've ever saw a child play and watch their innocence then you can understand why I'm writing this. Children and animals are almost identical. They both only know what we teach or treat them like. The only real difference is that animals were here first before us. Especially wild animals defeat the nature part of their impacted life alone, let alone what space we take from them or how we take care of nature. We all take advantage alot more than giving more effort to help than hinder. Hunting is needed for over population of other animals but domestic animals we have some control with procreation. There is plenty of food in this world and most times probably alot wasted where some could use. No need for not signing and passing this law. Thank you

Maybe in NJ you don't have people abandoning horses in state parks, and forrests - but here in Iowa we do. All our rescues are over capacity and with the drought we are experiencing the price of hay and grain is going through the roof. Our rescues are finding farms with multiple dead animals because the people have run out of feed and the sale barns here wont take ponys, colts, stallions, cripled horses or blind horses. It costs aprox $700 to euthinise a horse here including the disposal. Horse slaughter is a necessary evil and better done here in the United States than having our horses shipped to Canada or Mexico where they have to travel thousands of miles and we have absolutely NO say in how they are treated once they cross into that foreign country. Better here where all aspects can be regulated than where we have no say.

I agree I hate the thought of any animal being slaughterd ( I am a vegetarian) there are so many unwanted horse due to over breeding and greed. If horse slaughter is kept in this country it would prevent these poor animals being shipped to mexico or canada where they STAND in ther own waste for days with no food or water, and are then UNHUMANLY killed. If they are to be killed do it in the USA where it can be regulated.

Why isn,t the bill signed yet??? And if she signs- I certainly hope No horses get send to Mexico or Canada ! Mexico is well known for their Animal Cruelty and the way, they do slaughter-is Horrible !! They eat Horse-meat. This law needs to be passed in all states to be really effective. CA. has had the law since 1998, and no one enforces since the horses are sent from an auction to a feedlot or another out of state auction. Enforcement is lacking once a bill is passed. It helps show that N.J. will be anti horse slaughter to show our lame reps in DC we do not want horse slaughter. All states NEED this law.. horses are just taken out of state and on to slaughter.

I grown up a small farm with a bull, cow, chickens, and 2 horse. Should not kill the horse for eating a meat, no way as normal kill the bull or cow for making a meat. I was upset in East Canada to eat a meat of Horse during cow was freeze no selling meats for 2 months then return a normal to eat cow,s meats. A reason horses always work a hard job or race for people than cows.
