Victory—California Lawmakers Uphold Ban on Foie Gras!

Last week, animal welfare groups called on California legislators to reject an eleventh-hour attempt to gut an animal protection law passed in 2004. The law bans the cruel force-feeding of ducks and geese, as well as the sale of foie gras produced by force-feeding.

In order to produce foie gras, farm workers shove long pipes down the throats of ducks and geese multiple times each day to force-feed the animals unnaturally large quantities of corn and fat. The process causes the birds' livers to become diseased with hepatic lipidosis and swell up to 10 times their normal size. The birds are then slaughtered, and the diseased, engorged organ is sold as foie gras. 

"Force-feeding animals to induce liver disease so people can consume a high-priced hors d’oeuvre is completely out of step with today’s growing commitment to animal welfare," said Suzanne McMillan, ASPCA Farm Animal Welfare Campaign Director. “We are glad California lawmakers stood their ground and kept the humane law in effect.”

Hola Amigos De La ASPCA Soy Dahyana Robayo tengo 17 años vivo en Colombia,Bogotá d.c,estoy absolutamente indignada y triste por como aqui se tratan a los animales callejeros como la gente no respeta su vida,aqui no hay justicia para ellos hay una defensoria de animales pero eso no sirve de nada veo como atropellan los pobres perritos y nadie los ayuda,nadie tiene compasion por ellos y los conductores no los respetan y los atropellan con sus carros,como anhelaria que ustedes tuvieran presencia aqui en mi Pais,yo con mucho amor seria participe de todo esto,lastimosamente no tengo los recursos para ayudar a todos los perritos que necesitan de mi ayuda, tan solo puedo ayudar brindandoles comida,agua y mi cariño a todo aquel perro que veo,gracias por esa hermosa labor que cumplen y recuerden que si nos unimos en todo el mundo podemos acabar con este problema que estamos viviendo,gracias y mil gracias.

One "animal welfare group" was in fact a group of chefs who serve foie gras and gave themselves a very misleading name. Many were from the restaurants in my home town (Sonoma). I'm glad the legislators didn't fall for their deceitful ruse!

here in britain we have animal cruelty big time . Our Problem is Muslims which a weak and cowardly british govenmentallowes that vermin to slaughter animals while alive by hanging them upside down and the slitting their throat it can take some 20 mins for the poor thing to die.
