Who'll Be the ASPCA's 2013 Calendar Cover Model? Cast Your Vote!

Thursday, August 23, 2012 - 11:30am

We're putting our 2013 calendar together right now, and staffers and volunteers representing all 12 months of the year have been photographed with their furry friends. There's only one big decision left to make, and we’re leaving the answer up to you: Who should grace the calendar’s cover?

We've narrowed down the field to four contenders. Check out the photos that are in the running, read a little about their sweet four-legged subjects, and then cast your vote for our 2013 Cover Dog or Cat. The pet whose photo gets the most votes will have his or her face in homes all over America!

Buddy

Abandoned in Brooklyn, Buddy was rescued by an ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agent. Soon this irresistible Terrier found his forever home with another member of our Anti-Cruelty team.

Maow & Bruce

Cuddly siblings and BFFs Maow and Bruce were adopted from a tiny shelter in Rego Park, Queens. Maow is a dainty lady, while Bruce is an expert boxer.

Pooch & Schnogg

Pooch survived a gunshot wound as a puppy and was adopted by a loving family that included big brother Schnogg. Now Pooch, the baby of the house, rules the roost.

Rocky

Zoom

Named for his favorite playing position (sitting on his back legs and using his front paws), Rocky is a fun-loving feline who keeps a close eye on his younger sister Lucy.

Really? That's the best you've got? What does that possibly have to do with the subject at hand? And it's very unprofessional (not non professional, as you stated) to point out someone else's minor errors in a public forum.

Not to mention, Crude, RUDE, and IGNORANT!

geez, calm urself

which one should we talk about? how about HORSES! Come on people you are quite annoying with your spelling and grammar whatnot.

Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!! The word is "unprofessional", not "nonprofessional"!!!

U r an ah@*!.... Your family must b very proud of your spelling achievement. Lol

Both dogs and cats or one of each on the calendar's cover would be fine.

"At the end of the day, language is about conveying a concept to somebody else, therefore, as long as you know what the person was getting at, it has performed its task correctly."

Who are YOU to talk aabout spelling, when you don't even know non-professional is NOT a word. What an A--!!!

Try to spell this correct: es ist uninteressant ob die Rechtschreibung korrekt ist, den Tieren sollte Du helfen. The spelling in this case is not relevant (please forgive me if the spelling is wrong) I am just a dum German

Are you concerned about animal welfare or becoming an english teacher?

Get over it.

Wow you are pathetic lol

Are you for real? I think even through mispelling and grammer mistakes people still can understand the message. This is about care and love of animals, it's not cyber English class.

Who cares if someone spelled a word wrong! Why don't you say something positive!

Are you serious? Get a life.

seriously? didn't you get the email? people who only care about the animals know that in their honor the spelling was changed for the ASPCA. not many organizations are awarded such a distinction, but the ASPCA deserves that and more. hmmmm. shouldn't you be volunteering somewhere instead of worrying about samantics. oh sorry. semantics.

Go away!

I don't think cats and dogs should be photographed together. They are natural enemies. Unless they are raised together from kittens and puppies.

You are misinformed as they are not "natural" enemies. My cat never had a dog in the house and in 10 minutes was playing with him.

I have had dogs for my entire life, and they will only get along and live peacefully with cats if they are introduced when the dog is still a puppy. They are natural enemies and will fight if not trained early that cats are not prey.

I think a cover showing both would be great and as for them being natural enemies, I beg to differ. I had two cats when I took an abandoned, pregnant pitbull in off the street. The first night she was in my house, she was so grateful for a meal and a safe place to sleep, she barely noticed my kitties. It's been that way ever since and for the last three years, we've all lived together in harmony. Maybe you'd like to see the countless pictures I have of them sleeping together? Natural enemies? I think not.

Just wanted to say Thank You Soooo much for saving that mommy to be, we have a rescue from NY that is a Pit mix & I have a purebred 14 yr old male Red nose & love my Pits, they have been show & broadcated to be such horrible dangerous dogs but honestly they are not that way at all, like Lee Barrett of Barretts Bull Pen champion pulling dogs world wide in Lynn, MA says "Don't blame them, train them, it's NOT the dog it's thd owner" true & honest words & not many people give a Pitbull an honest chance or the Stupid kids that use them for horrible things, even famous people using them for fighting, our first rescue was a female that was usec for fighting in Lawerence that had just had puppies that the Stupid kids took away from her & then labeled her useless where no other dog could beat her, well after wanting to beat him, finding out where he was thru talking & playing a pretend game of interest in seeing fight, we not only saved her but sent the police to his house to rescue the babies, you honestlh couldn't have her around other animals but was great around my 6 month old son sushi mother and followed like he was 1 of her own, So in all THANK YOU VERY MUCH for giving her a second chance in life & most important a Loving permanent home to live in thank you very much

I adopted a small Pit that had run away from where she was and we feel she saved her own life. According to the phone # on her, the people denied any knowledge of her. She was a 6 month old, unspayed female. So my family figured the ran for her own survival. The people at the phone # never admitted to knowing her or having her. She was a good little girl, but my own older dog(Sheltie)was the one who started arguments.

Thank you so much for taking in that pitbull and giving her a loving home. The world needs more people like you.

That is absolutley untrue. I have 2 dogs & a cat, they were not raised together. They not only get along, they play & sleep together. Certain breeds of dogs have small prey drive more than others & those breeds can be difficult to have in the home with cats. However, they are not "natural enemies".

My dog was 12 yrs old when we got our cat(a feral). They were the best of buddies from day one! When my baby (dog) passed away, kitty looked for him everywhere and every time the door opened or closed. They should e photoed however they look good. together or apart.

Not true. I have several cats that I've had for years. Last year we adopted two two year old 70 lb. rescues. They all get along just fine. They sometimes even share food and water bowls.

That is one of the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

Wiki Answers: NO! Cats & dogs are NOT natural enemies! However, some do not always get along. If you buy a dog & you already have a cat, letting them meet face to face Is not the best idea. When the dog & cat meet, you should put the dog on a leash & let the cat stay inside. Now just let them meet each other through a glass door [or some other transparent/semi-transparent barrier] so they can get used to looking at each other. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Are_dogs_and_cats_natural_enemies

I think its a good idea with any new family introduction, dog to dog, cat to cat, dog to hamster...to go slowly with introductions. Some pets are less protective or teritorial than others. I can understand why someone would think cats and dogs are natural enimies. That is probably how it would be in the wild, try mixing lions and hyenas. It is also a popular steriotype on cartoons, evey watch Tom and Jerry and see the dog go after Tom. Just saying. Lets try not to judge each other too harshly and do our best to be civil. Maybe if people can get along one day, we will be able to see the need to care for animals and cruelty will be a thing of the past. But there always seems to be this one-upmanship and competition to be right. Correct others and that is often a waste of time. People rattle these messsges off so fasst that thay are likelly to make lots of mistacks.

I have several cats and dogs, only one cat was raised with dogs, the others have been adopted by the dogs as part of their pack. They bathe each other, play chase, eat together. This is my pack, living in peace together.

It definitely depends on the dogs And cats personality If they get along

Seriously? Natural enemies? Sorry but you don't know what you are talking about. I've had many dogs, including pit bulls with cats. They play together and sleep together.

love dogs, like and admire cats, I prefer dogs.

There's "a rat" in SEPARATE!

I admit i prefer dogs to cats and love seeing photos of dogs by themselves or with other dogs

i also think doggy and kitty together is a good idea! :)

Separate is spelled sepArate not sepErate. To remember, think, there's "a rat" in separate.

People please! Get over yourself and the spelling this is not what's it's about. Just look at how cute all 4 pictures are and what a tough job it is to pick just one!

Thank you for being the voice of reason.

I agree--I would love to see both together. It was hard to choose between the dogs and the cats!!!

yes i love to see when dogs and cats sleep together

I know I was just ready to write the same thing.

So do I. I agree with Janice.

I own both 2 cats and 2 dogs and love them all the same. They are all my babies and they love being together. In fact, my German Sheppard found a tiny kitten and mothered her so now my kitty, Jackie sometimes acts more like a dog than a cat. She loves my other cat and follows her alot but when it is nap time she looks for her dog mom.

It would be great to see a cat & dog shot!shortly

I totally agree! How about next year?!
