Who'll Be the ASPCA's 2013 Calendar Cover Model? Cast Your Vote!

Thursday, August 23, 2012 - 11:30am

We're putting our 2013 calendar together right now, and staffers and volunteers representing all 12 months of the year have been photographed with their furry friends. There's only one big decision left to make, and we’re leaving the answer up to you: Who should grace the calendar’s cover?

We've narrowed down the field to four contenders. Check out the photos that are in the running, read a little about their sweet four-legged subjects, and then cast your vote for our 2013 Cover Dog or Cat. The pet whose photo gets the most votes will have his or her face in homes all over America!

Buddy

Zoom

Abandoned in Brooklyn, Buddy was rescued by an ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agent. Soon this irresistible Terrier found his forever home with another member of our Anti-Cruelty team.

Maow & Bruce

Zoom

Cuddly siblings and BFFs Maow and Bruce were adopted from a tiny shelter in Rego Park, Queens. Maow is a dainty lady, while Bruce is an expert boxer.

Pooch & Schnogg

Zoom

Pooch survived a gunshot wound as a puppy and was adopted by a loving family that included big brother Schnogg. Now Pooch, the baby of the house, rules the roost.

Rocky

Zoom

Named for his favorite playing position (sitting on his back legs and using his front paws), Rocky is a fun-loving feline who keeps a close eye on his younger sister Lucy.

THEY ARE ALL ADORABLE. CAN'T YOU PUT ALL OF THEM ON THE COVER?

I would prefer to see our member dollars going directly to shelters and other more lasting ways of helping animals, rather than on a calendar which will be discarded after a year.

I really think with all the exposure GOOD and Bad that is being sent out on TNR that it would set a great precedence to put and ear notcher cat on your cover or at least on the Oct month during national FEral Cat Day.

I have 18 cats and two big dogs...love every animal that exists on the Earth! Wish you had a group of animals on the cover...just a nice mix would do? Also thanks for all you do! I do support you!

I am absolutely disgusted by the bickering over spelling and grammar. You don't have to be a genius to love animals. I really thought I was going to read tasteful comments about the pictures for the calendar, instead I have to read comments about frivolous things that I can assure you all these animals don't care one bit about. Let's move on from this bickering and support ASPCA and their cause!

I would love to see cats and dogs togather on the calendar. They are both cute and will look great in my office! I also agree that dogs and cats can get along pretty well if you raise them right. Needless to say I'm looking forward to seeing the 2013 calendar!

Oftentimes when pictures of our two most popular animals (cats and dogs) are shown together, out of five photos, say, there are four pictures of dogs and one of a cat. Please show more balance -- more CATS!

The ideal thing would be to have a dog and a cat together on the front cover.

I never see this type of dog. I'm happy to know, that a dog like mine, isn't in any peril.

The cover should be "just" the animal, no humans. Let the animals enjoy their fame as they deserve it. They will stand out all by them selves or with other animals of the 4 leg variety. Keep people out of it.

so apparently the comments section of this site is now devoted to grammar and spelling correction... great. I think I'll go read some articles now.

I love the picture of Rocky! He is a beautiful cat. I too would love to see a picture of a cat & dog together.

My Dog Lucky passed away Nov 15, 2011. He was a lab bulldog mix. He was 13 years old. Had arthritis and developed respiratory problems. So my vet said it's time to let him go. I sat and held him crying my heart out while he took his last breath. So even though I love all animals, dogs will always have a special place in my heart.

I am so sorry for your loss. :( I have had that happen in my life before, and it's so painful words can't describe it.

We Love Animals so, let's pull the entire Zoo in. ;=)))

I love getting the annual calendar. My co-workers enjoy looking at the great animals on them. I just hope that this next year we get the larger calendar. Last year I got that little one and it just sat on my fridge. I am a regular donor to the ASPCA and have been for several years. Always will be to. Whadda ya say Administrators? The larger calendar this year please?

I like the donate .60/day dog (in the ad).

Thanks to the ASPCA and all the adopters out there making a difference in the lives of our four-legged friends. And thanks to the adoptees for making our lives a bit happier.

I cant stand 2 hear or see the articles on abuse!it breaks my heart...i donated 2 u b4 and as soon as i get work i will donate again!

I noticed also that one person spelled "separate" wrong, but someone commenting is not a professional and has nothing to do with the professionals on this site. If a person is presenting him or herself as a serious writer, then complaints about spelling and grammar are appropriate; otherwise, they just reveal the small-mindedness of the complainers. As for the competing photo entries, I have seen many better photos here and elsewhere. I would definitely prefer more than one kind of animal on the cover. It would be really nice if there could be one, including at least a few of these: a dog, cat, rabbit, bird, duck, chicken, goose, turkey, horse, goat, pig...etc. Guess we need Old MacDonald's Farm for that.

All dogs should have to be registered and tagged.

All dogs should have to be registered and tagged.

Yes it would have been nice to have a cat and a dog

Really these are the 4 finalists for the cover? I would have loved to see a pit bull. This poor breed gets so much bad press from the media we need to do as much as we possibly can to try and help. Every shelter I go to here in the city of Chicago is filled with pit bulls more than any other breed. Some positive public relations efforts are badly needed.

It doesn't matter which wonderful animal is on the cover, they all deserve to be admired and loved. Great job ASPCA, as always!!!

When we correct those who correct those who correct, we are all joining in the same old dance: how can we feel superior to others? I wish i could support your work as much as it deserves. In the meantime, i read faithfully what is written in your reports. I am most grateful that your organization exist, and does such marvelous work. For the time being, i am only rescuing abandoned dogs (4) and (2) cats here in Santiago, Chile.

Why not all of them? They are adorable and all suffered before adoption. I happen to have chosen only one picture, just because there was no other option.

I really wish they had included horses! I am a HUGE horse lover, and was disappointed to see it was only cats and dogs. I don't want to sound harsh or for this to come off in a mean way, but dogs and cats aren't the only animals getting abused. Horses are sent to slaughter houses daily for their meat and hooves for glue. Having them on the calendar cover would really help to stop that disaster from happening. And how about the chickens or cows in commercial slaughterhouses? They are given so many drugs to make them overweight! It's ridiculous!

Yes, I would love to see more horses too, I have two horses and one is a 25 year old retired race horse.

Please look at all of the wasted space spent on bickering about misspelling when it could have been used on promoting the ASPCA and/or the animals who so desperately need our HELP.

Was this not about voting for a picture? You are making a positive and loving issue and turning it into a debate about spelling. Really? Get your undies out of a bunch! The animals are what is important here. This is sad!!!

I LOVE them all! It was hard to pick because they all deserve the cover spot

I Love all animals! I've had cats and dogs all my life. I have 3 dogs and 3 cats. Two of the cats ( now one yr.old) were in a litter of 4 that were about 3 weeks old when found at a work site on lake Michigan. I took care of all four of them. Found homes for two of them and I kept two!! One of our dogs belonged to our neighbor who I dog sat for. She fell ill and passed away I said I would take care of her dog! I vote Rocky for cuteness ...and Pooch & Schnogg for survival story! I agree put cats and dogs on together!!

Bless you all for doing such wonderful work. These animals are beautiful and they all deserve happiness and love.

my rescued dog THE BEAR a chow mix has received her 3rd chemo treatment and is now in remission for lymphoma. I ask for prayers that she will live long enough to enjoy more sniffs in the snow and rolling in the grass in pittsburgh.

You and your precious pal certainly have my prayers that the future holds nothing but happiness and comfort!

I like the comment from the retired secretary. I tend to notice when people misspell...but as others say..this is for the animals. spell correctly when it counts, otherwise, who cares? my best friend can't spell worth a darn, but I just try to muddle through her sentences to "try to get" what she's saying! hope everyone "gives" til it hurts their wallets!

Will the 3 pictures that don't win at least be inside of the calendar? I don't want to just completely vote the other 3 off of the calendar. I can't help it... I feel bad! LOL!

I had to vote for Rocky, even though the orange beauties look like my sweet cat, named Mouse, who passed away in April, would have been 16 in June. Rocky is my other cat, who was given that name because he would stand and box with his front paws!

People, please! I almost forgot the reason I was here! I'm a perfectionist; I care about spelling, syntax, and grammer....for myself. That having been said, I don't care if someone else makes a mistake. Additionally, this whole thing wouldn't have escalated if folks could just view critical posts, then ignore them - as most of that type should be. Back someone like that into a corner, and they come out fighting. In the future, perhaps we can respond to such posts with the proper lack of attention (e.g. don't bother responding at all), and get on with helping our furry friends. I'm fairly certain that most of them can't spell anything over 2 syllables.....and I love them anyway! ;-)

I'm so disappointed in the fact that I joined the ASPCA believing that those who put forth the efforts to help abused and neglected animals would be the wiser. If spelling is of the utmost importance to you, (and not that of simply voting on a calender cover for the ASPCA), then perhaps you should focus your efforts and misguided animosity towards a career as an English teacher. Perhaps just ASK YOURSELF why you're here in the first place. Mediocity DOES NOT favor results! IT IS tolerance and understanding that can accomplish great things!

I suggest that ASPCA delete all the comments that are not calendar or animal related. It's ridiculous for people go on and on about correct spelling or the lack thereof on a site that is dedicated to animal welfare!

So true (Spelling Comments) but it is all so silly it made me laugh. It's all how you look at things.

As long as there people there's always going to be people like that very pathetic but very true rather then spending time deleting there should be time helping animals as long as there's people theres always going to be haters

It is very hard to choose or single out only one cute picture of these animals. They are ALL very cute and beautiful to watch. May be adjust them in a different styles and include all of them on the first page...I would love to see them that way.

I have an idea for the calendar. I have the sweetest picture of my cat and my beardie touching noses. I would love to see all pets, separate and together in the calendar.

I also would like to see all 4 pictures of dogs an cats on the cover or one of the dog and cat pictures on the cover together.

that's the most i have laughed all day! thanks for the silly arguments... I laughed so much tears came to my eyes. We all came to this site to vote right? Not to nitpick each other. Time to chill all you negative noo noo's

All are adorable! Hard to just pick one of them. Hope that they are featured in the calendar along with horses, rabbits, pigs or any other rescue animals.
