Who'll Be the ASPCA's 2013 Calendar Cover Model? Cast Your Vote!

Thursday, August 23, 2012 - 11:30am

We're putting our 2013 calendar together right now, and staffers and volunteers representing all 12 months of the year have been photographed with their furry friends. There's only one big decision left to make, and we’re leaving the answer up to you: Who should grace the calendar’s cover?

We've narrowed down the field to four contenders. Check out the photos that are in the running, read a little about their sweet four-legged subjects, and then cast your vote for our 2013 Cover Dog or Cat. The pet whose photo gets the most votes will have his or her face in homes all over America!

Buddy

Zoom

Abandoned in Brooklyn, Buddy was rescued by an ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Agent. Soon this irresistible Terrier found his forever home with another member of our Anti-Cruelty team.

Maow & Bruce

Zoom

Cuddly siblings and BFFs Maow and Bruce were adopted from a tiny shelter in Rego Park, Queens. Maow is a dainty lady, while Bruce is an expert boxer.

Pooch & Schnogg

Zoom

Pooch survived a gunshot wound as a puppy and was adopted by a loving family that included big brother Schnogg. Now Pooch, the baby of the house, rules the roost.

Rocky

Zoom

Named for his favorite playing position (sitting on his back legs and using his front paws), Rocky is a fun-loving feline who keeps a close eye on his younger sister Lucy.

I too would prefer to see a cover with both cat and dog.

I think there should be more of a variety to choose from for this cover..

I really like Buddy and Rocky -- I am a "cat" person, but I chose Buddy because it looks like he's smiling :-) Perhaps a split cover, with Buddy on on side and Rocky on the other. Perhaps that would make BOTH dog lover and cat lovers happy.

Why not put the 4 pics together on the front page? Awesome!!!

I say put them all on the cover....Why not?

You need to have pics of doggies and kitties together

Love Buddy as well as Pooch & Schnogg. Really had a hard time choosing because am so moved by stories of compassionate rescue and happy forever homes!

How about a month or two with neither cats or dogs? My two adopted handicap bearded dragons are quite adorable!

I think cats and dogs together would be nice. However, I'm picking Buddy because he looks like my 94 year old Mum's dog, Patti who died in June at 12. She was thrown out of a car, and Mum and Dad adopted her at 2 months old from Winnipeg Humane Society. She was quite wild for a long time, and they thought she was too big for them (she ended up at 60 pounds). But she ended up sitting in chairs, sleeping on beds, drinking tea, very loving and happy!

I love all animals. I wish I could vote for each one.

Wow - this is so difficult as I love all of them. Hopefully, all will be included in the 2013 calendar

I love animals, but am definitely a cat person; even so, I would love to see a photo of a cat AND dog on the cover--equal time! :-)

I would bet these animals have more cool than the people writing these comments about the mispelling of a word. The cats and dogs don't care - why should you? Get over it and help these animals.

it was hard to pick just one they all deserve to be on the cover but since they can't put them all in the calendar

Do you have a contest to select photos for each month of calendar. When is the contest and how do I enter? I would be very interested in doing so for the 2014 calendar! Thanks!

All 4 are adorable!

I would like to see a montage of many animals...it would be a unique and different cover than all the others...OR choose a cover with just 12, one for each month...and then highlite them inside one for each month along with their life story and rescue and curent life...

I have to agree with a lot of the people. I think a cover that has both, dogs & cats would be better. I did place my vote but I hope that you will consider what everyone has been saying about using both.

Any dog who survived a gunshot wound deserves to be a "cover girl" in my book!

How can i enter my dog to be in the calander

The 2 dogs represent the variety of animals that need help. I have 2 rescue kitties! They are great with our dog.

would like to see a tripod dog or cat...one who has overcome extreme adversity

I wish there could be several covers. All of them have such wonderful stories to tell.

I would say the pit that killed paid with his life as well. And it was the owner who should be up on charges for non socialization of the animal. I have six rescue dogs and one is a pit mix, another a Reagle - a Rotti/beagle mix, another a Dalmatian, and three beagles. We recently had our husky/GS die of old age - we miss her as do the dogs who grieved. The pit is still a pup - he is less that 18 months and is dominated by the smallest girl beagle who is a recent rescue this year. I am truly sorry for your loss - the loss of a beloved pet is losing a family member. I do believe you should report the jerk who left this dog unattended, and who sounds like was trained to kill. Animals like children need to have PROPER supervision and be taught not to do harm. Also like children who are taught to HATE, animals are taught to harm. Dog fighter participants use dogs like your poor pup as bait animals - the cruelty is unbelievable. The owner should be charged and you already killed the dog. BUT DON'T RUBBER STAMP please - these dogs are loving just as much as any other breed. My husband who was hesitant about Oscar because of all the bad press, has been adopted by the pit - my husband has dementia and all the dogs gather around him but the pit is his constant companion.

would love to see dogs and cats together. Our dog plays and sleeps with our cats,it,s sweet.

I would have loved seeing a picture of a horse or two.

An overweight dog or cat on a cover is not good promotion of proper animal health. Cat and dog on the cover would be best.

All 4 photos are equally adorable. How about a collage of many different photos of cats and dogs and even other kinds of pets that ASPCA work with.

I would loveto see dogs and cats together

Loved all of the pictures, am very happy that they all found wonderful new homes. Really look forward to seeing the finished calendar. I really did not know much about ASPCA until the programs on Animal Planet - but I am definitely a converted follower now. Please continue the terrific work and thank you for giving us a way to contribute and help the animals that we love.

How about having 2 calendars? One with a cat or cats and the other with a dog or dogs????

A cover with both cats and dogs would be best!

The ASPCA helps all kinds of animals not just cats and dogs. But I love them all, they could easily put a turtle, snake, horse or goat on the cover and it would be okay with me.

I would have liked to see pics of cats and dogs together; maybe even a horse in the mix

I love both dogs and cats. I love all animals. It was so hard to pick who to put on the cover. They are all beautiful.

A VARIETY OF ANIMALS SAVED DESERVE TO BE ALL INCLUDED IN THE CALENDAR COVER IN ORDER TO CREATE MORE CONSCIOUNESS TO HUMANITY. THEY'RE ALL A MIRACLE TO BE SAVED AND STARTING NEW LIVES!!!! LOVE HAPPY ENDINGS :-)

I can not vote! They are all lovely!

compared to the complete anguish that pigs (hogs) have to suffer everyday of their lives, dogs and cats have it good. im not suggesting we abandon continued concern for canines and felines, but can we generate some press for the abused farm animals.

As long as it is an animal on the cover, who cares??? These animals are happy, healthy and that is all that matters. We could go on and on about what should or should not be on the cover...and how petty is it for judging someone on how they spell. Trivial is what is it...this is about the animals and nothing else! I personally like BIG cats...but I have a great love for dogs and horses, humans with stupid stuff, not so much!

This is the first time in my life I have voted for a cat when dogs could be chosen. Rocky is sooo handsome..and deserves his studly name. Please don't tell my Roo I voted for a cat...she'd never forgive me.....

How do you submit a photograph of your own cat?

No in fighting, please?! I love all the photos of all the dogs and cats, they are all becoming of being on the cover! God bless them and the ASPCA!

The consensus seems to be that it would be great to see dogs and cats together. I love and take care of both, but I made a choice Pooch and Schnogg!

I would like to see many more variety of animals throughout the calendar. Rabbits are the third most popular house pet after cats and dogs. Rats are charming and intelligent companions and make great friends. There are so many animals out there of all kinds, who need loving homes.

How about hedgehogs?

I've seen far less fighting between ANY species than I've seen in these comments. Can we all remember that this is about the cover of a calendar, not how people spell, or whether cats and dogs get along, or whatever else is bothering anyone.

All of the animals are lovely - it was a hard choice!

PUT THEM ALL ON THE COVER.... THEY ARE ALL CUTW.

So...it duzint matter that if the"public" iz illitterit? Shudint we take mor pride in ourslevez and at leest tri and spel thingz rite? Everybudy makes mistakes but we shud tri.

iT WOULD BE NICE IF A FUTURE ISSUE FEATURED DOGS AND CATS TOGETHER OR A HOST OF RESCUED ANIMALS. i LOVE YOUR CALENDARS. yOU DO WONDERFUL WORK! THANK YOU ONLY WISH I COULD CONTRIBUTE OFTEN AND A LOT.
